We live in a world in which electricity is taken for granted by most people inside the modern city. The constant presence and humming of electrical light is only noticed in it's absence. Televisions blare consumerist propaganda into the wee hours as junkies inject their cultural memes that perpetuate their lifestyles. And the mass majority of this electricity is being generated by extremely destructive practices such as burning coal, which taints our air, our water and is destroying our mountains.

What we need to change is our outlook, and the way in which we interact with electricity. With global warming becoming more and more of a reality to the humans and more of a disaster for nature we need to find out whether or not it's worth it to continue to convert so much of our planets stored fat cells into planet warming CO2. The reality is that we would probably be happier if were able to sleep in the winter when it got dark outside but we've become so accustomed to staying up late with our artificial light sources and entertainments, and are pushed towards working so many hours that this doesn't happen.

I think that if we are going to survive and prosper we need to start decentralizing our energy creation and storage, we need to embrace renewables on a local community basis and wean ourselves from the destructive generation techniques that are so predominant in our industrialized civilization. This also means that people need to start taking responsibility for their lives and seperating themselves from a culture that enforces destructive habits and strive for our autonomy to be lazy and do our own thing. Energy can be free, the sun charges no utility bill for all of the power we have from it, and this is where all of the fossil fuels we are consuming originally come from in the first place.

At the same time ranting and having strong opinions will not get anyone off of the grid, but they can be a good impetus to take action. Until we are able to generate our own power independent of a centralized industrial power structure that utilizes destructive techniques to create our energy, it is tainted. So turn off the lights at night, install mini-solar and mini-windmills and become conscious of your energy habits. This web-site will include tutorials, essays and links to various sites to help you in your endeavor to break your fossil fuel habit and rewild your life.
